I was born at night, but it wasn't last night

Two days.

Two days Sam and Dean had been crashing in the guest bedroom upstairs and it hadn't taken him an hour to realize there was a weird tension in the air. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he figured it was only a matter of time until it came to the surface. Stubborn idjits... every time he tried to ask about it, they'd try to brush it off like it was nothing.

Must've thought he was blind or something.

Not that he had time to be wasting on their feelings right now. There were people being picked off in a town up north from where they were and they needed to figure out what the hell was doing it. Bobby's money was on a water wraith, but you could never be too careful.

He sat at his desk, reading over a few texts he had spread out across it and only giving passing glances to where Sam sat, pouring over his own book. Dean had been sent off for a dinner and booze run... and as far as Bobby was concerned, he was taking too damn long.

"You find anything?"

Sam nods, pulling a few things from his bag before disappearing into the bathroom. He closes the door, but leaves it unlocked as he starts up the shower. As far as he's concerned, his brother is always welcome to join him, even in spite of what had happened today.

He makes quick work of his clothes, groaning softly as he steps under the spray. The warm water does wonders for his tenses muscles.

Dean stayed out for a moment, lingering as he put his things away, but when it was clear Bobby wasn't going to come over... he decided to join him in the bathroom.

It'd save time anyway.

"Scoot over, Sammy."

Sam smiles at that, admittedly a bit relieved as he side-steps to give his brother room in the shower. They hadn't lost Bobby, which he was immensely grateful for, but things were more than a little awkward with him. He doesn't want that awkwardness to affect his relationship with his brother. It's too important to him.

He steps in closer and slides his arms around Sam, leaning up to give him a slow, deep kiss. He lets it linger, in no hurry to let it end really.

Sam is more than happy to return his brother's kiss, body relaxing even further now that Dean is touching him. He hadn't even realized how tense he was.

Dean presses in even closer, up against Sam's body as he reaches to either side of him and presses their hands to the wall. He kisses him slow and deep. They don't have a lot of time, really, but he figures they could both use this.

Sam's fingers trace down his brother's chest as they kiss, but the touch isn't erotic. It's touching for the sake of touching. He wants to feel Dean's skin under his fingers.

"Sammy..." he sighs when the kiss ends and tips his forehead in against his shoulder, nuzzling into him affectionately.

"I'm sorry," he murmurs. "About today. I know you didn't want to say anything, but I couldn't lie to him anymore."

"Save it," he answers, tilting his head up to look at Sammy. "He needed to know eventually... at least it didn't blow up as bad as I expected."

"It was a risk," he plows on, ignoring his brother's attempt to stop the conversation. "One I shouldn't have taken when we'd agreed not to say anything."

"Sam." The tone is the one he uses when he wants to stop a conversation, discouraging and stern, but not exactly angry. Maybe he should be, but he's tired and doesn't really want to think about it at all. "It's over with and all we can do is hope he doesn't change his mind about looking the other way."

Sam buries his face in Dean's neck, taking a moment to soak up the warmth of both his brother and the water. "You're right," he murmurs.

"Alright, alright..." Dean huffs out a laugh despite himself and pulls Sam into a tight hug for a moment. Hard not to when he's got Sam curled into him, face against his neck like that. Brings out that protective side in him better than anything. "It'll be okay, Sammy, whatever happens. Got that?"

Sam relaxes in his brother's arms, calm for the first time since they'd spoken to Bobby. "It will be as long as you're with me," he agrees. Sam had always thought that the two of them could do anything as long as they were doing it together, and that hasn't changed.

"Yeah, it'll be fine, Sammy," he murmurs before he pulls back enough to be able to lean up and kiss Sam lightly, letting it linger.

"Don't think you're ever getting rid of me."

Sam presses into the kiss, but doesn't try to deepen it. He knows they don't have the time. "Never gonna try to, Dean. I need you." Sam doesn't think he's ever spoken truer words.

"You got me." He reluctantly pulls back and grabs for the soap to start washing Sam up.

"C'mon, we gotta job to do, Sammy."

Sam nods his understanding, grabbing the shampoo when he sees his brother go for the soap. "And as soon as we kill this thing, we can get going." What they need most right now is done alone time with Sioux Falls disappearing in the rear view mirror. They could reconnect with Bobby in a few weeks.

"Yeah, definitely. It'll be nice to be on our own again for awhile, let all this settle or something." He tilts his head to look up at Sam, managing a weak smile.

"After this is taken care of, we'll look around and see if we spot any other cases or something."

Sam nods his agreement as he lathers the shampoo into his hair. He could use a break, but as long as he's with his brother, he'll make due.

Dean might actually appreciate a break too, some time to sort things out in his head... but they'd see. Sometimes they got cases back to back and sometimes there was more of a wait.

He rinses himself off quickly and passes the soap back so he could grab for the shampoo too.

Sam takes the soap, trading it for the shampoo. Even in the shower, they work flawlessly together, and the thought makes Sam smile.

Dean washes his hair quickly -- not like it took him as long. Didn't have all that ridiculously long hair that Sam did. Once he was clean and rinsed off, Dean slipped out and grabbed a couple towels. Dean left one for Sam and dried himself off with the other.

He headed back into the bedroom and grabbed some clean clothes out of his bag to slip into.

Sam steps out, wrapping the spare towel around his waist. He heads out to his bag, rifling through to find something to throw on. "You should really dry out your hair," he murmurs. Sam has no chance with all the hair he's got, but if they don't want to scar Bobby for life, they probably shouldn't make it so obvious they showered together.
