I was born at night, but it wasn't last night

Two days.

Two days Sam and Dean had been crashing in the guest bedroom upstairs and it hadn't taken him an hour to realize there was a weird tension in the air. He wasn't sure what was going on, but he figured it was only a matter of time until it came to the surface. Stubborn idjits... every time he tried to ask about it, they'd try to brush it off like it was nothing.

Must've thought he was blind or something.

Not that he had time to be wasting on their feelings right now. There were people being picked off in a town up north from where they were and they needed to figure out what the hell was doing it. Bobby's money was on a water wraith, but you could never be too careful.

He sat at his desk, reading over a few texts he had spread out across it and only giving passing glances to where Sam sat, pouring over his own book. Dean had been sent off for a dinner and booze run... and as far as Bobby was concerned, he was taking too damn long.

"You find anything?"

"Alright, alright..." Dean huffs out a laugh despite himself and pulls Sam into a tight hug for a moment. Hard not to when he's got Sam curled into him, face against his neck like that. Brings out that protective side in him better than anything. "It'll be okay, Sammy, whatever happens. Got that?"

Sam relaxes in his brother's arms, calm for the first time since they'd spoken to Bobby. "It will be as long as you're with me," he agrees. Sam had always thought that the two of them could do anything as long as they were doing it together, and that hasn't changed.

"Yeah, it'll be fine, Sammy," he murmurs before he pulls back enough to be able to lean up and kiss Sam lightly, letting it linger.

"Don't think you're ever getting rid of me."

Sam presses into the kiss, but doesn't try to deepen it. He knows they don't have the time. "Never gonna try to, Dean. I need you." Sam doesn't think he's ever spoken truer words.

"You got me." He reluctantly pulls back and grabs for the soap to start washing Sam up.

"C'mon, we gotta job to do, Sammy."

Sam nods his understanding, grabbing the shampoo when he sees his brother go for the soap. "And as soon as we kill this thing, we can get going." What they need most right now is done alone time with Sioux Falls disappearing in the rear view mirror. They could reconnect with Bobby in a few weeks.

"Yeah, definitely. It'll be nice to be on our own again for awhile, let all this settle or something." He tilts his head to look up at Sam, managing a weak smile.

"After this is taken care of, we'll look around and see if we spot any other cases or something."

Sam nods his agreement as he lathers the shampoo into his hair. He could use a break, but as long as he's with his brother, he'll make due.

Dean might actually appreciate a break too, some time to sort things out in his head... but they'd see. Sometimes they got cases back to back and sometimes there was more of a wait.

He rinses himself off quickly and passes the soap back so he could grab for the shampoo too.

Sam takes the soap, trading it for the shampoo. Even in the shower, they work flawlessly together, and the thought makes Sam smile.

Dean washes his hair quickly -- not like it took him as long. Didn't have all that ridiculously long hair that Sam did. Once he was clean and rinsed off, Dean slipped out and grabbed a couple towels. Dean left one for Sam and dried himself off with the other.

He headed back into the bedroom and grabbed some clean clothes out of his bag to slip into.

Sam steps out, wrapping the spare towel around his waist. He heads out to his bag, rifling through to find something to throw on. "You should really dry out your hair," he murmurs. Sam has no chance with all the hair he's got, but if they don't want to scar Bobby for life, they probably shouldn't make it so obvious they showered together.

"Huh?" Dean pauses at that and reaches up to push a hand through it. It was stuff like that he didn't stop to think about too often really. He nods. Sam's right... he knows Bobby would have the decency to not mention it, but eh.

Better to not scar him anymore than they had.

"Be back in a second, Sammy." After getting his clothes back on, he heads into the bathroom to dry his hair quick. Not that it ever takes that long or anything.

Sam is dressed and ready when Dean rejoins him, bag full of hunter goodies over his shoulder. "This shouldn't take too long, then we can get back on the road. Get a few states over before we have to crash."

"Yeah, c'mon. Bobby's probably waiting." Since Sam had the supplies, he went to grab the door and headed out. Really, Bobby probably didn't need to be here... they'd handled plenty worse on their own, but Den was glad that he was.

Meant he could still stomach them at least.

Bobby's already waiting by the time they're out. He's leaning against the front of his car and nods at them. "Wondered if you two were takin' a nap or something."

He pushes away and makes his way towards the driver side. "Let's get goin'."

"That was my fault, Bobby. I needed a shower." And now he's really glad that Dean had died his hair. He hadn't even planned on drawing attention to their shower.

When the older man makes for his car, Sam walks around the Impala, slipping into the passenger seat.

Dean was definitely glad too and he didn't waste time slipping into the Impala, starting it to follow Bobby to the scene. He was looking forward to ending this and getting back on the road... and then maybe waiting a long while to come back and see Bobby.

As much as the idea of not seeing Bobby for a while upsets him, Sam knows it's for the best. Everything they told him needs time to sink in, and he and Dean need some time to themselves after being cooped up under Bobby's roof so long. Parting ways is the best for all of them.

It isn't much longer before they pull into the spot where they need to be and Dean kills the engine. He looks over at Sam once before he goes to slip out, grabbing for the bag with their supplies and tossing it over their shoulder.

"You ready, Sammy?"

"Yeah. Let's do this." Sam slips out of the car, sliding the demon knife and his gun into his waistband. Neither of them are any good against a wraith, but he feels better with them close at hand.

"Alright, keep your eyes open," Bobby mutters as they come closer. He shifts his weight a little bit, looking around.

"Shouldn't take us long to take care of this." Then again, you never knew when a case could turn complicated either, did you?

Sam pulls the zipper on the bag over Dean's shoulder, pulling out two of their silver knives. He hands one to his brother, then looks over at Bobby. "You need one? We have a few extra," he offers, though he's be surprised if Bobby needed one.

"You think I'm an idjit, boy? Got my own supplies." His tone isn't particularly harsh though. Actually, it's more relaxed now that they're back in familiar ground, something he knows how to deal with.

Sam nods, zipping the bag back up. He knew, of course, but it didn't hurt to ask. "Alright. Let's go."
