"We found out that it's definitely a water wraith. But not much more than that." Sam leans against the sink, eyes out the front window. "Like I said, Bobby's crotchety. He thinks we're fighting."

"What?" Dean frowned a little bit. "Why does he think we're fighting?"

"I guess he can tell we're both kinda tense," he shrugs. "I don't think we're doing a good job of being stealthy."

Which is a problem that they need to fix, or find another hunt and leave Bobby's behind for a while.

"Yeah, I guess..." He sighs and tilts his head back for a moment, trying to think. it was hard lying to Bobby about this... he knew they had to, but that didn't mean it sucked any less.

"We'll leave soon, Sammy."

"I wish we didn't have to do this," he says softly, fingers toying with the washcloth laying beside the sink. "He should know." Even as he says it he knows it's a terrible idea. Knows that they could lose the only person they have left in the world if Bobby takes it badly.

"Sam... come on, do you honestly think that's a good idea? He ain't gonna like what he hears." How could he? What they were doing wasn't normal, wasn't okay. "I don't like lying either, but I'm not interested in getting my ass kicked either."

Sam sighs softly. He knows his brother is right. Knows that telling Bobby could ruin their lives. But keeping such a heavy secret is a drain on both of them.

"You're right," he says, though it's clear he's disappointed. Not in Dean, but in their situation. "Get back soon, okay? I love you."

"I'm coming, Sammy..." He pauses. Even if he knows Sam isn't disappointed in him, it doesn't make it any easier to stomach really.

"We'll figure it out, alright?"

"Alright," he says softly. "I'll see you soon." Sam keeps the phone pressed to his ear for almost a full minute before closing it and slipping it back into his pocket. Why do their lives always have to suck? If its not running from a creature who wants to kill them, it's having to keep a secret from the only person they have left in this world.

And on that depressing note, Sam turns from the window to head back to Bobby.

"You figure out what's going on?" Bobby asked, lifting his eyes back up from the book he'd had his nose buried in. He just kind of wished he had an idea of what was going on in general, really... something was off and they were doing a damn poor job at hiding it.

"He'll be back soon," he says, dropping heavily onto the couch. "Said he just wanted to drive around and clear his head." Which he wouldn't need to do if they just told Bobby the truth. But if it was lie forever or lose him by telling the truth, Sam would choose the lie every single time. It was easier to keep the secret when they weren't staying with Bobby anyway. Soon enough they'd be on the road, and the stress would be gone.

Bobby gave a grunt at that and turned his attention away. "Gonna ask again... something going on I should know about?"

Here to listen... that was pretty much his job, wasn't it?

Sam scrubs his hands over his face, sighing quietly. "It's complicated, Bobby. But nothing Dean and I can't handle."

He promised Dean they'd keep this a secret, and Sam isn't going to break the promise. It's such a weight on his shoulders, but it's a weight he'll bear for his brother and to keep Bobby in their lives.

"Yeah, alright." Winchesters were a stubborn bunch... there wasn't any forcing them to talk unless they damn well wanted to. He let his eyes go back down to his book and read over it absently.

"Think you'll be taking off soon?"

"Probably," he admits. "Could be a Wendigo out in eastern Oregon. We'll probably head out that way in the morning."

He's relieved to have Bobby drop it. If he doesn't ask, then Sam doesn't have to lie. It's so much easier that way.

Dean keeps his word to Sam and comes in not long after. He hadn't been that far or anything... wasn't looking forward to sitting around another awkward evening at Bobby's, no matter how much he loved the man.

"Hey, c'mon, food's here." Burgers and booze, was there a better combination?

Oh, yeah, one of those crappy salads for Sam too since he loved them so much.

Sam is off the couch the second Dean's in the door, relieved to see him. He tries very carefully to keep his reaction normal, snagging the bag from his brother and rooting through it for his food. He could almost kiss him for bringing him a salad, but he's pretty sure that would be a bad idea.

So instead he sits at the kitchen table, working the plastic top off his salad and digging in with the fervor that Dean normally uses on a bacon cheeseburger. Food in his mouth means he doesn't have to talk if Bobby goes back to asking questions.

Bobby watched the two quietly before getting up to head to the table. He pauses to grab a few beers and puts them on the table for them. "Hungry, kid?"

Sam was devouring that salad like he hadn't ate for a week.

Grabbing his own food, he sat down.

Dean can only offer up a grin and not the kiss or anything he wanted. Hell, even a hug would be weird right now, considering they only hugged when... well, the circumstances were rarely great when they did.

Shaking his head, he took up a seat at the table and opened up his food to eat.

He watched Sam with amusement when Bobby spoke up. "Hey, Sammy, guess I did take a long time, huh?"

Sam swallows thickly around a too-big mouthful of lettuce, coughing to clear his throat of the salad dressing that clings to it.

"Just hungry," he says sheepishly. "Didn't eat much today."

Bobby let out a grunt, eyeballing the two for a moment before he went back to eating. Something still felt off... but far be it for him to bring it up. After dinner maybe, because he hadn't ate much today either.

"Yeah? You find a case or something, man?" because no offense to Bobby, but dammit, Dean needed out of here and fast. He was getting antsy, tired of playing dumb or ignoring every impulse he had to touch Sam.

He'd gotten too used to doing it.

"Yeah," he says, glad to have good news to tell his brother. "Wendigo in Eastern Oregon. I figure we can head out as soon as we deal with this wraith."

Which hopefully is soon. His leg is bouncing underneath the table as he eats, and it has nothing to do with being hyper. It's a distraction. A way to focus his attention on something other than the fact that normally he and Dean would be curled up on the couch as they ate, watching bad television and enjoying just being together. It feels like months since they last did that.

"Got as much as I can on the wraith," Bobby started, looking between the two.

"You two should get some rest... might be a busy day tomorrow." And maybe those two would relax a little bit. Sam was bouncing around like he was about to crawl out of his skin, Dean was fidgeting in his seat.

This was getting damn ridiculous.

"Getting some sleep sounds good to me. I'm kinda beat." And he kind of wanted Sam alone for a few minutes. At least they had their chance in the guestroom... besides, Sam wasn't exactly playing it too normal right now.

Hell, neither of them were, if Bobby was already questioning.
